...early fall walk in the urban forest

I love fall...the colors...the smells...
the chill and dampness in the air...
the sounds of migrating waterfowl...
especially when it begins to "show"...

these pictures were taken anywhere in the last month...
on walks around my neighborhood...
and in my yard... enjoy...

this is going east from the circle...
"liquid ambers" starting to glow...

same trees...different angle...

looking across the street...
one of several Chinese pistachio trees...
just starting to turn...
[I LOVE the red ones...]

the sycamores don't really "turn" colors...
though the leaves will yellow to brown, before falling...

the bits of color you see here are red seed pods...
that crunch under foot...

and then....

there's the "creeper"...

"Virginia Creeper", aka "Boston Ivy"...

this has been a banner year for it...
not too much strong wind late...
to rip it down...

and a generally mild summer...
so it didn't just dry up and die...
much of it actually has turned...

an advantage of the turning...
is the stained glass-look from inside...
a perk I don't often enjoy...
but did this year...

and then...
there's the fall sky...
SO BLUE...

and with clouds...

that much bluer...

a never-ending kaleidoscope...
as the wind blows...

UnklePhil's liquid amber is just starting...
it turns yellowish-orange...
and there's a bit up towards the top...
that has started...

my backyard neighbor's Japanese maples are tinged at the top...
they had a persimmon tree that was glorious...
after all the leaves dropped...
the bright orange fruit like Christmas tree ornaments...
on the bare branches...
and the birds having a feast...

here is my lone pomegranate this year...
there is one other high up...
but it looks disfigured and is misshapen...

garden 4 inch mums generally don't last...
since forcing them doesn't develop their roots...
and they generally don't winter well here...
these did... enough water & sun...
and are blooming again this year...

and growing eagerly...
probably to bloom in December or January...
"paperwhites"...
