...Mackie update, 5.0
this morning I found Mackie peeing in the corner by the front door...
since he'd always been so good to make it to the cat box...
I figure that he must have really had to go...
[the puddle was pretty good size...]
or since Molly had a pig's ear she was guarding in the batcave...
protecting her prize by yipping at any feline who came close...
he may have been deterred from going in to use the cat box...
by "danger dog" guarding her lair...
he did go around through the kitchen for his breakfast...
but he came in & ate well...
when Molly & I got back from our walk...
he was high up on the tree...
I got his meds, pulled him down & gave him the dropperful...
I noticed that his tongue was "pinker" than yesterday...
a few days ago had been yellow, then a pale whit-ish pink...
today it was definitely pink...[he is anemic...]
AND... he actually swallowed the meds without gaaacking...
I had noticed that he hadn't been gaacking while eating either...
which means that if he had lesions in his mouth, they're healing...
and if the amoxicillin is doing that, they aren't the bad kind of lesions...
from a severe immune deficiency like Piglet's were...
it's a miracle...
except for the peeing in the corner...
everything has been positive lately...
he even came to be petted last night...
very normal for him...
thanks again to all of you kind-hearted people...
who have prayed for us...
and continue to do so...
his back legs are still weak...
but he seems "on the mend"...
God is good...ALL the time...
I'm going to go have some breakfast toast now...

You may want to consider putting the Bat Cave in a different location, not so close to a main cat thoroughfare. From the one video I remember seeing, Molly is quite serious about protecting her loot, and she doesn't realize that the cats are not interested in hooves or pigs' ears. A sick or weak cat is going to try and stay away from a snarling dog; and if Mackie's hind legs are still weak as you say, then he probably wouldn't be able to get past Molly quickly enough for (his) comfort.
My two cents, FWIW.
...my thoughts as well...
I have been attempting to correct her
guarding... but part of it is playful...
the problem is that now the rug runner is there...she is even more firmly anchored there...
if I ever get the bathroom done...argh
then there will be much more room for her...
but you have read the situation accurately...
and Mack has seemed a bit afraid of her this last week... I wonder if in trying to play, she may have hurt him...?
"and Mack has seemed a bit afraid of her this last week... I wonder if in trying to play, she may have hurt him...?"
That could very well be. Some dogs really "zone in" on sick animals, exploit their weaknesses. :( Not malice, just in their nature. Or she might have just been unintentionally too rough with him.
Did the vet have anything to say about Mackie's weak hind legs??
...I haven't talked to him about it...
Mackie was SO stressed there & the first day or two at home...I really wanted him to be better...before I stressed him out again...
the way Molly tries to "play" with cats is a bit aggressive for them...
the "Muffinator", on the other hand would love it...
again...I think you're reading the situation correctly...I think she may have inadvertently hurt him...
no malice... just too rough for an older guy who wasn't expecting it...
none of them run from her... when she is "guarding", they jump away...
but I haven't seen her be mean, just playful...
she's better on walks when we see other dogs & people...she's not shying from men anymore...
Catsinger...I'm SO happy Mackie is doing so well! We will keep the prayers going. Molly probably feels like the "Alpha" pet...perhaps because of her size compared to the kittys! It is certainly an interesting household you live in!
Hugs to all...
...thanks M&CM...we're trying a little "tough love" with the dog...
I've also moved her nest...
she was getting too territorial...
the kitties have rights too...
I'm sure she'll be fine...
and Mackie too...
