...happy 3rd birthday, Molly

this picture was taken a couple of days ago...
as Molly was chewing an old piece of leg bone...

as I celebrate Molly's 3rd birthday...
I find myself reflecting on the past year +...
that she's been here, in "Kitty City"...
with me and the felines...

Molly is a happy dog...

I say that having known a few who were often morose...
and a few that weren't...

she is not,"cool", like the felines...
she wears her heart on her sleeve...
bouncing about, mauling one of several squeaky toys...
punctuating the squeaks with yips of doggy glee...
scattering previously sleeping felines in her wake..

sometimes, she thunders through the house, [aka,"the runnsies"]...
when she's glad to see me or wants to play...
especially if Lucyfur, Mackie or SPie are about...
[and woe, to any feline or human who gets in the way...
sort of like a baby rhino going downhill...]

she likes the back yard, spending an hour or so in the morning...
[in good weather, much less if it's wet or cold...]
sometime, also in the late afternoon, if I've been gone...
patrolling the perimeter, calling the nasty blue jay names...
looking for Piglet, who I try to have inside when Molly's out...
[Molly wants to play chase & Pigs will have none of it...]

Molly loves the cat window perch...
from whence she barks at anything that moves outside...
though she can really wreak havoc getting up there...
scattering cats left & right...

I do have to keep her in the crate when I'm gone...

she goes batso and throws herself at the windows...
when the mail or a delivery comes...
and I'm afraid that she'll break a window...
she already "unhung" a stained glass panel...
while barking at a passing dog walker...
fortunately, it didn't break...

there were numerous plants in pots that suffered a worse fate...

she also spends the night in her crate...
cozy, right next to the floor furnace grate...
and anytime that she gets too carried away barking...
she goes in for a "time out"...

always willingly, especially if I toss in a toy or treat...
she seems to enjoy her crate...
yipping at any feline cheeky enough to pass too close...
she only "talks" to greet me on my return...
or if she really needs to go...

I have to be very careful of the cat food or she'll scarf it...
and she is quite stealthy too...
feline quality sneakiness...
going around through the kitchen...
to get at an unguarded morsel or cat dish with crumbs...

so I am still quite amazed...
[considering just how much territorial yipping, etc...
accompanies the gnawing of bones, etc, from her nest...]
that she will share all sorts of goodies put in her dish...
with any feline who sticks their nose in...

no growling, or defensive posturing...
no gulping or bolting the food so they won't get any...
just gently taking a bit, eating it & politely going back for more...
too bad the kitties aren't that nice to each other...

two days ago...
I had to give up on the last of the meatloaf...
[it had been around too long & didn't smell right...]
yesterday, it was the last of the chicken...
that I had slow-cooked, weeks ago...
and had made many good meals from...
but was now, too old & tasted strange...

they didn't care...

I broke up the few remaining slices of meatloaf...
giving Molly the bigger pieces...
and the kitties the crumbled ones...

the chicken went the same way, & quickly...
but shared with great gusto & no rancor...

I found myself just shaking my head in wonder...
as I watched Molly nibbling daintily on some chicken...
while Thomas, sitting right next to her, was eating from her dish too...

I've been working on building up my legs...
so that we can take an extra long walk for her birthday...
I'm sure that she'll like that...

it's still a work in progress...
me having a dog, that is...
I know cats, inside & out...
dogs, not so much, but I'm learning...

after all, there's a reason that God made her the way that she is...

the ideal dog to live here, with me & the kitties...
to teach me things & help me to become more patient...

so despite the small annoyances [purloined cat food...]
the need to train her & be,"the boss"...
the plethora of toys, old old bones, half-chewed rawhide...
ripped pillows, broken plant pots and messed-up chair cushions...
and, I hope, the "never again" dislocated finger...

I'm glad that she's here...

so, Happy Birthday Molly !
I hope you have many more...

...a gift for Molly from MizYBee & Gigi [her dog]

tonight before Midnight Mass...
Miz YBee, canine aficionado, supreme...
presented me with a Christmas gift for Molly...
from her & her dog, Gigi...

the toy is "special"...
I removed the "specialness" before giving it to her to chew...
as the manufacturers recommended...

she likes chewing it so much...
that this is the best shot I could get...
the rest were "action-filled" & blurry...

she also loves the cheese flavored snacks...

many thanks Miz YBee & Gigi!

...Molly hears a trumpet

I know some of you have been eagerly awaiting this...
so I set up my camera on a table top tripod...
set it to "movie"... and began to play...

the whole first film had no "star"...
just a soundtrack of me...
warming up for the first time in 8 months...
[no... really... I last played in late April...]

so I continued to play...
eventually I heard her coming...
so I started the camera...
and I got what I got...
3 short clips...

the dog's a natural born critic...
[you'll see...]

BTW...NO cats were chased during the making of this film...

enjoy...

[the film, that is...yes there are glitches...
that's why they call it "warming-up" & "practicing"]

...happy birthday Molly

when I adopted Molly on October 1, the consensus was...
that she was almost 2 years old...
everyone who had expertise agreed...
the vet, Miz Minka...so that was good enough for me...

but deciding on a birthday for her was a bit harder...
the obvious choice was my birthday, October 22...
but that was a bit soon, I thought...

the more I considered it...
the better I liked the idea...
of sharing my "spiritual" birthday with Molly...
since I consider her truly a gift from God...

so after consulting with Molly's God Mom, MM...
[that's what God-Parents's are for...to be consulted...
and give advice...& MM & Mr GT give good advice...]
we agreed that November 25 is now Molly's birthday...

so happy birthday, Molly...

now you're two... uh oh...
two...
the terrible two's...
sigh...

of course, in dog years, that's about 14...
ooops...that may be worse...

hummmmm...

well, I survived 20+ years of 14 year olds...

I guess I can survive another...

congratulations Molly...we're all glad you're here...

...dippy dopey doggie blogging...

Molly has had a tough day or so...
as I began to get sick Friday night...
I was less inclined to take a long after dark stroll...
so she's had a couple of "backyard moments"...
between yesterday and this morning...

so when I got home from church today...
we went on a walk...while the cats were eating...
and then, on our return, I fed her part of her dinner...

all the cat food had been consumed by the cats [what a concept...]
so I left the plates on the floor...
& I went into my bedroom to rest a bit...
upon my reappearing a couple of hours later...

I found this...

not one dish... or two... but THREE cat food dishes...
had been brought one by one into the dog zone...[aka the Batcave...]
to be licked clean of all remaining traces of "fishy goodness"...
[salmon & tuna/whitefish flavors...]

it seems the "fishier" it is ...the more Herself likes it...
mind you...all the food was gone...
this was at best a clean plate "lick-down"...

after preserving the dastardly doggy doings for posterity...
I opened the box that had finally gotten here...
it must have been traveling by mule train...

it contained the heated dog bed I had purchased for Molly...
a good suggestion from the doggy Godmom, Miz Minka...
when Molly was sliding her bed over the floor grate...
MM had found one on a web site that was much less expensive...
than most of the ones I had found...

since it's not really cold right now...
I'll wait until it is again before plugging it in...

but the heated bed wasn't the only thing I got for her...

she now has a bright yellow, hooded rain slicker...

I probably could have gotten the next bigger size...
and may yet do that, even though it does fit her...

in my defense [I am NOT the kind of person who dresses up animals]...
she does have short hair...

when we walked in the rain before...

she got soaked...
she shivered...
smelled bad for a while...
& got everything in the house wet...

so at least now when we walk in the rain...
she won't be miserable...

...the "runnsies"

before you say, "ewwww..."
it's not THAT kind of "runs-ies"

MM used that term to describe the crazed burst of energy...
the wild running to & fro...the readiness to play...
she saw Molly do, after she & Mr GT rescued her...
when they took her to the country house...
& released her in the dog run...

an apt description...because that's what they do...
dash about in circles for the sheer joy of running...

I've seen cats do pretty much the same thing...
[generally followed by a sickening crash...]

we were in the back yard after her walk...

I was taking pictures when I heard it begin...
before I could set up the video...
and locate the "star"...
she'd made 2 circles of the yard...
[the first shot is a "still" of a movie frame...]

BTW...I now have a nasty sore bruise on my left hand...
where Molly got me AND the ball...
you'll hear me holler... then see all further "interaction"...
in the form of kicking... I learn fast...

enjoy the "runnsies"...

...the catbird seat [aka Mom's back ! ]

the catbird seat...

a highly coveted spot for feline slumber...
until about a month ago...when Molly arrived...
and made it her catbird seat...

the first time I saw her there...
I was picking up the mail, looked up...
and saw her sitting in the cat nest...
wiggling all over with anticipation...

the cats have deserted it ever since...
[it's more the fireside type of weather now anyway...]

so I've seen this sight often...
[whenever I've been gone in the car for a bit...]
but this time... I took my camera...

the second part of the video...
finds a rotten dog, flaunting a purloined cat food dish...
[it was empty...but still lick able...]

& BTW... she has moved her nest on top of a floor furnace grate...
I move it off....she moves it back on...
it has become routine...
like retrieving the cat food plates from her nest...

and the feint at Lucyfur is "play"...
I've seen it dozens of times now...
if the feline in question stands their ground...
it'll be "game on"...

but that hasn't really happened much yet...
and though Sneaky Pie is "close"...
she still retreats to lurk on the back of my chair...

enjoy...

...Molly gets a present [aka Dopey Dog Blogging]

today after church...MizYBee confirmed dogaholic...
gave me a present for Molly, from her dog, Gigi...
the dogs have never met...
[Molly has to learn how to play nice first...]
but Miz YBee met Molly & that's all that matters...

this video is of Molly's first introduction of the toy...
[an aqua blue & white terrycloth mouse, with a long tail...
and a pom pom on the end...]

did she like it ? ...you be the judge...

thanks, Miz YBee & GigiBee...

...it's been a month already !

I just realized it's been a month...
since Molly came into my life...

after I enjoyed the video of Molly playing...
that Miz Minka made & posted to her blog...
I went back and read her first post about a homeless dog...
and realized that it had been a month ago today...

from the first encounter of the feline kind...

to the decision to keep her...
[...lets face it... I was toast...]

to her finding her place...
and feeling at home...

the lovely & scintillating "E"collar...

as well as the discovery that Molly is a "singing dog"....

and then...

finding her own little "wonderland"...

Molly's become a pretty happy dog...

who now has a home, a Mom, doting Godparents [& Minka]...
numerous feline co-conspirators...
a micro chip & a city license on her purple collar...
a secure backyard, long walks...
lots of toys, crunchies, 2 beds, toys...
pig's ears & the "occasional" bite of cat food...

and now... for her 1 month anniversary...
a knuckle bone...
& a bed on the couch in front of the fire...

God is good, indeed...
