...location, location, location...

it's rather subtle...

it didn't start until a few days ago...
just before Halloween...
when the chill & rain...
necessitated the regular furnace usage...

I have floor vents[aka grates...]
it's the old fashioned notion...
that since warm air rises...
it makes sense to bring heat in low...
and let it rise on its' own...

I just have to keep the grates uncovered...
relatively clean...[there used to be screens...]
so that the heat/AC has an unobstructed flow...

Molly's bed landed close to a grate...
cause that's where the floor space was...
due to most of my new bathroom ...
being stored in boxes in the LR/DR area...

then it got chilly...
and the battle was joined...

every morning...and now, several times throughout the day...

I walk past... and find this...

Molly's bed covering the grate...
creating a very snug place for her...
and a "chill zone" for the rest of us...

so... I move it back...
[often retrieving purloined cat dishes at the same time...]

and allowing the warm air to "rise again"...

but the next time I walk past...

it's baaaaack !

covering the grate, yet again...

mindful of her sin... Molly endures "admonishment"...

and with the morose, but stoic bearing of a great martyr...
simply waits for me to leave...

and slowly... but inexorably...
her bed begins its' ooze back over the grate...
to warmth & doggy Nirvana...

and I thought cats were sneaky...

Might I suggest this for Miz-Gotta-Have-a-Warm-Butt?

I had two of these (smaller versions) for my arthritic cats, and my little 13-yr-old Chawiener dog quickly claimed one of the beds for his own. They work great and don't use a lot of electricity. They have a low stand-by temperature that doesn't rise to 102 degrees until the animal is on the bed.

I do wish you could catch Molly in the act of moving the bed (on video), that would be hi-la-rious! :D

...a Chawiener [?] is that a doxie/Chahuahua[sp] mix ? I've always liked doxies...
BTW...the embedded links don't seem to work in my comments...actually I had the same problem on your blog too...they used to...but not for a while now...
however...I think I know what you're suggesting... the heated beds[with the auto on] I've seen for a dog her size were $$$...
and I'd be afraid to put an electrically powered apparatus where it could get moved onto a heat source...

hopefully... when the redo is done... she will have more than enough room for her nest to be somewhere else...[she cuddles in her snuggy bed near the fire for the important stuff like chewing the tail off of the toy MizYBee gave her...and growling at her pig's ears as she demolishes them...

Oh...and she's VERY subtle...no dragging the bed closer that I've SEEN... just "body surfing" it over... incrementally...

her latest perch is on top of the toilet box covered with a tarp...
[formerly "cat territory"...
she discovered that she can see the sidewalk better from there...;D

Yes, it was a Chihuahua & Dachshund mix, but I've always thought "Chiwiener" looks weird, so my choice for spelling is Chawiener. Chachacha. :)

You're right, embedding doesn't work anymore; here's the link to copy & paste:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=18125

It' an 18x24 heated pad for only $46 plus S&H; I think that's plenty big enough to warm Herself's butt. :)

The heated beds at DP (where you do a lot of your shopping) are MUCH more expensive.

...I appreciate your NOT pointing out my silly spelling mistake... :p
of course...I just tossed out a Drs F&S catalog...
I'm still concerned about the cord...
[the nearest outlet is right on the other side of the grate...]so the cord would, in all likelihood, end up draped over the top of the hot grate... Herself also LOVES to chew...
I guess if she hasn't gone after the lamp cords, this other would be safe...
thanks for the info... I'll look into it... and I'm sure you'll hear about any developments ;D
