der Katzensanger von Mudville...
in my time here[3rd rock...], I have sung many songs...I much prefer to be the singer as not being able to be part of any song tears at the "greedy songbird"["Amadeus"] in me...it's just the way I've always been.... I would listen to records[those round, black, vinyl things with the small hole in the center...] and yearn to be "playing"or "singing" what I heard...listening was fine, but doing was so much more essential to calm my soul... serendipitously, in the vein of "be careful what you wish for...", I also found my "inner cat" at a very early age[I had a stuffed one instead of a Teddy Bear...]...how do these two diverse compulsions intersect and in my case, run almost on top of each other for many years ? it's simple...I am a catsinger... similar to the various "whisperers",who have an unusual understanding of dogs,horses,etc...but really, what cat would listen to whispering or even begging, pleading, bribery[it has its' uses]or scolding ? they do, however "sing",will respond to singing but are picky about whom they will sing to or with or listen to....all my kitties sing to me, and I, to them, sometimes they even listen....sometimes, like last night ,when a huge full orange harvest moon was calling, Piglet,Queen of the Back Yard, sang," out ! NOW !" and I warbled back," no "...this , of course, continued ,allegro, non troppo, crescendo to fortissimo as a duet for a few minutes, ending with a staccato, sforzando "NO" from moi.... Piggs, always wants an encore and for the rest of the night, would rattle miniblinds, jump over my almost asleep self or sit pitifully, singing the blues ," my mean mama hates me,she treats me so bad, she's the meanest ol' momma, a poor cat ever had", in her best whiny voice...I would punctuate with a few basso "NO"s...and finally she would sleep, with "visions of catly revenge haunting her dreams"... during all this Fluff and Tippy[smart old lady cats who know who opens the cat food...] sleep in their beds by a window...all this only a raucous lullabye to them.... most catsinging is much less snarky[snide, evil, hateful] each cat I know has a song which we sing together and when one leaves us,I miss singing their song to and with them....I'm still coming to terms with the absence of the songs I've recently sung for the last time...for Silly Sumo,Big Red,Sadie, purring lady, sweet Rex, the purr machine and goofy Bubba...their songs ended much too soon ... there's a song on a solo album of Art Garfunkle that has a lyric,"when the singer's gone, let the song go on...there's a fine line between the darkness and the dawn...they say the darkest night has dawn beyond, but the endings always come at last, the endings always come too fast, they come too fast and pass too slow,I love you and that's all I know..."

This post just proves the statement that you should write about what you know. Your descriptions of cats and your interactions with them are so "spot on" as our British friends would say!
So that's where the "catsinger" came from! I once had a cat who didn't mind my singing, but she hated my guitar playing. Ran from the room whenever I'd pick up the guitar. Talk about feeling rejected... :)
